The 2013 Mr. Olympia took place on September 26 to 29 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and it was a historical contest to say the least. In the main event, the men's open bodybuilding was dominated by Phil Heath, who earned himself a third Sandow trophy. Heath was well ahead of the competition during the prejudging and he held his peak into the finals to secure his third consecutive win at the SuperBowl of bodybuilding.
Coming in second and in third were Kai Greene and Dennis Wolf, respectively. Greene came in slightly off during the prejudging, but regrouped for the finals and stepped onstage with much better conditioning. As for Wolf, he was the biggest surprise of the contest, making significant improvements in conditioning and coming in bigger than he ever has in the past.
For a recap and full results of the men's open bodybuilding competition at the 2013 Mr. Olympia, check out the following three parts:
In the 212-pound bodybuilding division, James Lewis edged out David Henry and Kevin English en route a second Olympia title. Henry and English finished in the second and third positions, respectively. All three of these competitors have won the lighter weight bodybuilding Olympia title, but Lewis is the only one to have won since the division was bumped up to 212 pounds.
As for the women, Iris Kyle and Adela Garcia made history on the same night. Kyle won a record ninth Ms. Olympia title and has established herself as the winning-most Olympia champion of all-time. Garcia, on the other hand, set the record for the most Fitness Olympia wins at eight.
In the women's figure division, Nicole Wilkins defeated her closest rival Erin Stern to earn her third Figure Olympia title. Wilkins and Stern have flipped-flopped victories at the Olympia for the past few years. And while the figure division has seen similar names in the winner's circle, the women's bikini division has had a different winner each year since its inclusion in the Olympia in 2010. This year saw 19 year old Ashley Kalwasser earn the nod and become the fourth-ever Bikini Olympia champion.
The 2013 Olympia featured two new divisions in men's physique and women's physique. Mark Anthony Wingston and Dana Linn Bailey emerged as the inaugural victors in their respective division. Both of these competitors have now set the standard for what the judges will be looking for in physique competitions.
