Weight Training Or Body Building?

Weight training vs. body building or strength training is a misunderstood area of weight workouts. Many people use the terms interchangeably but this is in fact incorrect. Strength training is NOT body building. The goals of the various disciplines involving the lifting of weights are all different.


The number one goal of body builders is to develop a proportionately muscled physique. Male and female body builders have increased muscle mass, with appetites to match. Men are usually very heavily muscled, while the women are highly muscular with chiseled figures.


In power lifting the goal is to primarily build strength and the ability to move heavy objects relatively easily. The word relatively relates to the definition of heavy object. Some people want to move trucks and others just want to move the furniture when they are cleaning the house.


When considering weight training vs body building, you probably really don't want either extreme. You probably want the best of both worlds - a muscular body that is toned, trim and athletic with functional strength.


The weight training vs bodybuilding debate is quite controversial. There are those that believe that body building is the worst thing that could have happened to strength training. They believe that the muscle size is huge compared to the strength achieved. They think the body builder's muscles are over-developed and less effective.

What is Body Building?

A man is said to be complete when he has sound mind, soul and body. The main role is played by the fit body, when the body is fit automatically the mind and the soul becomes fit.


How to keep the body fit? Various people have various opinions and views about body fitness. Once the body is fit, we take up steps to maintain and build it in a healthy manner. Healthy means keeping oneself fit with healthy food and surrounding.

Body building is doing exercises with various machineries. In building of muscles they maintain a different diet, type of rest etc. They do a lot of activity to keep the muscle structures active. The diet includes lot of fat intake. Arnold Schwarzeneggar Body Building




There's probably no one more well-known in the body building world than the former governor of California. Arnold Schwarzeneggar made body building a household phenomenon with the release of his 1973 movie "Pumping Iron". He has been granted the honor of single handedly making body building an everyday term.





When Arnold first started out in his body building career, he was just a young man. He started out as a "98 pound weakling" and grew into Mr. Universe. His transformation was an incredible display of body building might along with some amazing dedication.





There is probably no better body building story than that of Arnold Swarzeneggar. He worked a variety of jobs including that of street worker in Santa Monica, California. The entire time, he was also devoting all his off hours to honing and sculpting a beautiful body. In 1970, he was awarded the ultimate body building title of "Mr. Universe" and became a household name.





He kept on with his body building until he decided that a film career was the way to go. He found success as an actor in such films as "The Terminator", "End of Days", and "True Lies". While he never won any type of award for his acting work, he still garnered the respect of many Hollywood elite for his strong performances in these films.





Arnold's first approach to bodybuilding was fairly atypical. When he was 13, he played soccer, but felt very dissatisfied with a team sport. "I didn't like the fact that I couldn't be personally gratified" he declared. He tried other endeavors: track and field, boxing, javelin throw and weightlifting. But only when his coach suggested he tried working with weights (to strengthen his legs), Arnold found his true vocation.





When he first walked into a gym he was literally awed. "I found myself in a gym, in awe of muscles I had never seen before and of which I didn't even know the correct name. The bodybuilders were powerful, Herculean. Before my very eyes, my true future opened up: I had found the answer I had been looking for." Thus began, at 16, the career of the greatest bodybuilder of all times, the man who would be crowned Mr. Olympia for a record seven times.





As his physique started developing, so did his self-confidence. Very soon he discovered the thing somebody described as the "power of size". And, as his muscles grew, so did the respect he was receiving from his peers. The growing of his muscular mass, started influencing his relationships with other young men and, of course, with women too. He realized that some women were decidedly turned on by his physique, whereas others seemed to be disgusted by it. "I wanted to become even bigger, so that I'd be able to really impress the girls who dug muscles and... irritate even more the ones who disliked them."





Arnold Schwarzeneggar is quite possibly the epitome of the body building ideal. When you are serious about your body building goals, you could do worse than following the advice of the former great governor of California!

When you are serious about body building, having a gallery of pictures to show off your physique can be a great way to let the world know about your passion. When you have a body building gallery, you will get exposure in the fitness world as well as in the world in general.





There are many ways that you can display a gallery of body building pictures. To begin with, you’ll need to get the pictures together. Have a professional photographer take your picture in a variety of poses wearing a variety of outfits. You’ll want to be tanned and oiled up just a bit.





When you are posing focus on flexing your muscles fully. Have the pictures taken from different angles and different distances. You may also want to have some pictures done outdoors in natural light where you can move about and benefit from the look sunlight will give you.





Once you have a gallery of pictures, you’ll want to display them. The most effective and easiest way to do this is to set up a website. You can get your own dedicated web address for around $100 to $150 per year at a variety of web hosting companies. Web sites are easy to set up with the benefit of software like Dreamweaver or Front Page.

Short Workouts Lead to Bodybuilding Gains

I can't believe that there are still some who think you need 2-3 hour workouts every day in order to get bodybuilding results. If you are training hard and moving quickly in between sets, you can do an incredible amount of work in 45-60 minutes. Too much of a good thing can be counterproductive, and while a few people may be able to train for 2 hours and get results (due to genetics), for most of us training for that long will result in over-training and loss of muscle tissue.


After 60 minutes of training?testosterone and growth hormone levels begin to drop. Blood sugar begins to drop as well as cortisol levels (a stress hormone secreted by the adrenal glands) begin to rise. Cortisol starts to use muscle tissue for energy which is exactly what you don't want. In addition, it starts to protect body fat from being burned. The longer you stay in the gym the harder it will be for your body to recover as cortisol levels continue to rise. The best way to prevent this is to keep your bodybuilding workouts short and intense. You can even get great 25-30 minute bodybuilding workouts and get fantastic results!


So next time someone tells you to train for two-three hours a day in order to get results, you will know better. ?And besides, most of the people who stay for two to three hours at the gym, spend most of that time talking in between sets and getting no results.

Overtraining: The Most Common Cause for Hitting a Plateau

Over-training is one of the most common causes of hitting a plateau in your bodybuilding program. If you are not making progress from your bodybuilding workouts, the first thing you need to determine is if you are over-trained or not.? Now, how do you know if you are over-trained?


If you notice that your energy levels are very low. you lack motivation to go to the gym, your pulse in the morning when you wake up is higher than normal, your muscles constantly ache, you are not recovering, your strength is going down at the gym, and your immunity is low, chances are that you are over-trained.?


If you are over-training, the solution?is to simply take a couple of days off to allow the body to completely rejuvenate itself and then ease back into training. This works amazingly well.? Also, by using a periodized bodybuilding workout?as well as following the right bodybuilding diet you minimize your chances of ever getting over-trained again.? Always remember the need to periodize your training because if you choose to do high volume workouts all of the time, eventualy your body will reach the point that it can no longer recover.? That is why periodization varies the training by alternating weeks of high volume workouts with weeks of higher intensity/heavier work.?
