Tracking Your Bodybuilding Progress Properly

A big mistake that a lot of bodybuilders make is to track their bodybuilding progress only via the use of a scale.? A scale can only tell you how much weight you have gained or lost but it can never tell you how much of it is fat and how much of it is muscle.? Thus, a simple solution to this problem is to have bi-weekly weight-ins coupled with caliper readings.?

Skin fold measurements that are properly executed will give you a very good approximation of what your body fat percentage is so that in that manner you can calculate your lean mass and your fat mass.??By calculating?those values on the days that you weight yourself? then you will be able to know whether you are going up in muscle and/or losing fat.?

In order to get the most accurate measurements try to make sure that your body composition day (as I call it) is on the same day and at the same time of the day all the time.? In this manner, you keep most things constant and you get the most accurate results.

In addition to weighing yourself and getting caliper readings, I also recommend taking digital pictures on this same day so that you can see visually how you are changing.? In that way, you can address symmetry and unbalance issues.

What is the Best Bodybuilding Workout Routine to Burn Fat?

I often get asked questions like: "What is a good bodybuilding workout routine to burn the extra fat on my chest?" or "What ab routine can I do to get my six pack to show?".

However, one thing that needs to be understood is that no workout routine will burn off the fat for you. Burning off the fat only happens when the right bodybuilding diet is being followed. Training a specific muscle builds it up creating the desired shape that you are looking for. ?But in order to burn fat, you need to have the right diet. ?If the nutrition is inadequate, your fat will stay right where it is. And if your nutrition is horrible, the fat stores may actually increase. Thus, make sure that you are following a good nutrition program such as the fat burning diet I present on this website if losing fat is what your goal is.

I hope that this blog post clears up the misconception that there is a specific bodybuilding workout that will burn the fat once and for all. ?Remember that training and dieting are like the two wheels on a bicycle. ?You cannot get anywhere if you are missing one of them.

Short Workouts Lead to Bodybuilding Gains

I can't believe that there are still some who think you need 2-3 hour workouts every day in order to get bodybuilding results. If you are training hard and moving quickly in between sets, you can do an incredible amount of work in 45-60 minutes. Too much of a good thing can be counterproductive, and while a few people may be able to train for 2 hours and get results (due to genetics), for most of us training for that long will result in over-training and loss of muscle tissue.
After 60 minutes of training?testosterone and growth hormone levels begin to drop. Blood sugar begins to drop as well as cortisol levels (a stress hormone secreted by the adrenal glands) begin to rise. Cortisol starts to use muscle tissue for energy which is exactly what you don't want. In addition, it starts to protect body fat from being burned. The longer you stay in the gym the harder it will be for your body to recover as cortisol levels continue to rise. The best way to prevent this is to keep your bodybuilding workouts short and intense. You can even get great 25-30 minute bodybuilding workouts and get fantastic results!
So next time someone tells you to train for two-three hours a day in order to get results, you will know better. ?And besides, most of the people who stay for two to three hours at the gym, spend most of that time talking in between sets and getting no results.

Squats Don't Work Your Legs?

It seems that the more the information age advances, the more we tend to overcomplicate things. Today I got a question from a good friend of mine who stumbled upon a video of a coach talking about how the king of leg exercises in bodybuilding, the squat, is an exercise that only works the lower back and that it should not be performed as a result. ?Needless to say, my friend was confused, as was I.
Thus, I decided to put my detective/engineering hat on, take a look at the video and see what conclusion I would come up with based on the facts.
Is The Squat A Lower Back Bodybuilding Exercise That Does Not Work Your Legs? Find out in my latest Bodybuilding FAQ and feel free to share your thoughts on the subject as well.
