Leg Power - 2 Great Exercises to Develop Great Leg Strength!

If you want to develop animal-like leg strength and even want to learn a different way to do it rather than using the more traditional type of lifts like squats and cleans then you will like this article. Remember that to gain ultimate strength in any lift you have to learn and practice it with flawless technique. The following 2 exercises can be varied to a level of desired intensity.

Lift 1: (The One-Legged Squat or Pistol) Now this is a very difficult and challenging exercise to execute in the beginning. It is certainly something that has to be carefully practiced in order to obtain optimal results. This exercise can be practiced with the use of a chair or bench. You want to start by lifting one leg off of the ground in front of you and completing a squat on the other leg. Now this can be varied to the desired intensity a couple of ways. One you can use a different height chair or bench depending on how far you can take your range of motion. The other way is starting from a seated position and executing the concentric portion of the movement, or upward phase of the squat by standing up on that leg. The second variation is to actually put one foot on the bench and in a controlled fashion lower yourself until the leg that is hanging just touches the floor before coming back up.

Lift 2: (Flipping Tractor Tires) Did I just say "flipping a tractor tire?" Yes, I did. If you can get your hands on a commercial tractor tire and have an open field or area to play in then this is a tremendous way to build total-body strength and overall leg power! You can manipulate this lift several ways. First, you can simply stand outside of the tire squat to grab the edge and flip it over. You can add an extra dynamic by jumping up on the side-wall of the tire after the flip and back down in the doughnut hole of the tire, back to the opposite side-wall, and finally back to the ground on the opposite side.

Build Your Body Mass and Develop Your Muscles With Weight Lifting Equipment

There is equipment designed to build body mass and develop your muscles like weight lifting equipment and equipment, designed to burn fat and loose weight like fitness equipment. Muscular and strength equipment increases the muscles' strength, reduces the level of cholesterol and helps keeping down the levels of blood pressure and sugar. It is useful to people of any age and condition and may help you to shape your body the way you want. The muscular and strength exercise equipment includes free weights, dumbbells, barbells, ab training equipment, weight training benches, weight racks, vertical knee raise and dip stations, steps, cable machines, leg equipment such as leg presses, leg curl machines, leg extension machines, calf raises etc.

Free weights come in different sizes and colors and are very easy to use. By using them you increase your muscle endurance, strength, power as well as your bones density and your flexibility. They are portable, not expensive and can be used even in front of the TV.

A type of free weight is the dumbbell. It also varies in size and shape and helps improving the muscle mass on your triceps, shoulders and your chest. There are Selectric dumbbells (their weight can be changed mechanically not manually, fixed weight dumbbells (dumbbell - shaped weights), adjustable dumbbells (the plates are to be added or removed manually).

Barbells include a set of collars (the metal components that secure the weights in place), a set of weight plates (discs) and a metal bar (usually steel). The bars come in different length and diameter (women's bar is shorter and lighter). There are standard barbells, Olympic barbells, Triceps bars, EZ Curl Bars, Thick handled Barbells etc. Bear in mind that when lifting barbells you are going to need spotters, for your own safety.

Leg presses are used to strengthen the lower part of the body, especially quadriceps, Gluteus Maximus, calves and hamstrings. Leg presses are leg equipment used to push away a weight by legs. Leg Extension Machines are used for strengthening the quadriceps muscle. In order to execute the calf raises, you should need a seated or a standing calf raise.

A type of resistance training is the usage of weighted clothing. The lower body weighted clothing includes ankle weights, thigh weights, and weighted footwear. The Core weighted clothing includes weighted belts, dip belts, hip drags, weight vests, neck weights, head weights, weighted backpacks, and integrated weight systems. The upper body weighted clothing includes upper arm weights, wrist weights, and weighted gloves.

Weight training benches are also weight lifting equipment. They can be fixed inclined, fixed horizontal, with one, two or more adjustable portions, fixed in a folded position etc.

Today, all of the above mentioned weight lifting equipment can be purchased for home (even online) - this way you are not going to lose time and money ( a lot of them) for trainers and gyms and you can workout at home whenever you want and as much as you want. The only thing you need to do before you start and exercise program, is to contact your physician.

Weight Lifting Exercises For Your Chest - How to Develop a Thick Chest Using Dips and Bench Press

Go to your local gym and you'll see blokes working out the Bench Press almost to exclusion of every other exercise for their upper body. There's good reason for this.

The bench press is one of the best weight lifting exercises for your upper body and especially for your chest. It's not the only one however.

Others include:

Incline Bench Press Flat Bench Flyes Incline Flyes Cable Crossovers Dips

I tend to think that most times the chest workout should start with focus on either the bench, or dips.

The reason being that they are great comprehensive exercises, and if you're looking to gain mainly size and strength, there's no need to do focus exercises for any particular body part.

And plus, why workout harder or longer than you need to!

Bench Press

So how does it work?

1. Lie on the bench with the bar above your line of site

2. If you're lifting heavy, get a spotter to help you grab the bar at arms length, and settle it above your chest (in line with your nipples is best)

3. Breath in as you lower the bar slowly with control

4. Breath out as you push that weight as hard as you can toward the sky!

5. Repeat until muscular failure

This exercise is great for working out the total chest and shoulder area. You'll feel it in your triceps (especially if you use a narrow grip) and in your lats too.

Take care to do a good workout using lower weights to warm up the area before lifting. You'll be able to tell the difference in your workout if you "prime" the muscles using a warmup that builds to the desired weight like this.

Say your max weight is about 220lbs (totally random figure used for example only!)

You'd start with a warmup of about 90lbs and do 15 reps, then 140lbs for 8 reps, then 170lbs for 4 reps, then 200lbs for 1 rep.

This ensures you're not only warm, but ready to handle the weight without wearing out the area.

You're "primed" for doing the real work where you work the muscle to total failure. This is where you'll achieve maximum muscle growth potential. Go 100%!

Dips: Dips are great because unlike pushups, they use your entire body weight. They will also develop your triceps as well as your chest. They're also great if you've had a shoulder injury, working similar muscles, but less intense on the shoulders.

You can do dips on a chair/bench, or using dip bars.

Here's how it's done on the bars:

1. Squeeze the bar and look forward toward a point directly in front of you

2. Lean forward a little and bend your elbows until you are as far as you can go. Your shoulders must go below your elbows

3. Bend your legs and cross them so you can balance a little easier

4. Drive up until you reach the top of the movement

5. Repeat
